I’m a designer working at the intersection of craftsmanship and digital design. My process moves intentionally from hand-made methods, like sketching and printing, to data-informed projects and UX work, creating results that feel both tactile and contemporary. I believe the strongest ideas emerge when physical making and digital production continually inform each other.
Throughout my career, I’ve led projects for organizations like Indiana University, Cook Medical, and Stagetime, blending design craft with product strategy to deliver solutions rooted in empathy and real user needs.
My experience teaching design at Indiana University Bloomington and the Rhode Island School of Design helped me develop expertise in simplifying complex concepts and facilitating collaboration—abilities that now form the foundation of my user-centered approach.
Teaching and design have always informed one another in my career, and my entrepreneurial ventures—founding Griffy’s Art Supply and Felt Creative Co.—are a natural extension of my design mindset. I see building businesses as another form of design: identifying problems, testing ideas, and crafting meaningful solutions.
I hold both an MFA and BFA in Graphic Design from Indiana University Bloomington. My design philosophy centers on empathy, embracing diverse perspectives, and blending traditional craft with digital innovation.
"We have worked with AJ for a number of years, primarily consulting us on qualified lead generation through the use of creative, targeted social media advertising. AJ has helped us implement and fine tune Facebook & Twitter advertising campaigns. He takes the time to understand our business, ask good questions, and provide solutions that are relevant to our needs. AJ is ahead of the curve, keeping up with the latest trends and products offered by the ever-changing social media ad platforms, which in turn gives us a competitive advantage with our advertising. AJ also understands how to break down all the data that is collected from the ad campaigns and how to use that data to make our future campaigns better."
I'm available for workshops, speaking, partnerships, and freelance work.
